Sharing Progress - light at the end of the tunnel

15 years 5 months ago
So... I set up our new bank account last week in preparation for closing the old "existing account" and have been waiting for anything pending/outstanding to balance out so I could finally close it. I had a deposit pending this morning, but even with that, my bank let me remove those funds and I now have a "stop to debit" (or something like that) on the account - basically, deposits can go in, but nothing (and they assure me that really does mean NOTHING) can come out. I would have closed it completely, but our payroll checks are direct deposited into that account.

Automatic withdrawls - what should I do?

15 years 5 months ago
I'm on a hardship plan with BofA and Chase. I plan on settling with them in around April. I will stop paying them after Oct. They're getting their payments automatically from my checking account. What's the best strategy to take? Close the account after Oct., put a "freeze" on it (if there s such a thing), get a new chkg acct. with the same CU, or what? I have a long great history with the CU, and want to stay with them, but I need to stop these withdrawls so I can start saving for my settlement. Thanks!!!

15 years 5 months ago
Hi, I have a BOA American Express credit card with a 35K Balance. I am 14.9% interest & my payment is $725.00 per month. One month ago I went in for a simple one day surgery and it turned into a night mare for me. My lung collapsed and am ok for now, but I have not been able to work for the over a month and Dr are not giving me a green light to work for aprox 3+ months. Not even sure if my job will there for me in 3 months? Right now I am behind one payment and need advise on what I should do.

Got the wrong person!

15 years 5 months ago
We keep getting calls from Collect Corp wanting to collect debts from us. They have the wrong person and WILL NOT STOP CALLING! Is there any legal action that we can take towards the company for harrassing us? WE ARE NOT the person they are looking for, but they continue to call.

I e-mailed all 3 of my pdls on Friday as of today one has blocked account access and 2 have not. How long did it take for them to respond to you? How many times did you send the letters?

debt settlement

15 years 5 months ago
I have been on a dmp for over a year and would like to know if a debt can be settled if I stop the dmp. It would be Beneficial personal loan $10,069 & HSBC card svcs formerly Direct Merchants 1,164.00 . More than likely same company, different divisions. I would like to do this settlement on my own, if possible, if I can get rid of these 2 I'm in good shape. This site has helped me in the past, and I am probably going to use your DIY resources, but just need to know how to get it started.

Finding a new job with a garnishment?

15 years 5 months ago
Hey all, I have a garnishment that won't be paid off for another year or so. I have found a great new job I want to apply for, but I'm scared to even go for it because I don't know how they'll react when I have a garnishment. My questions are: Do I tell them up front? Can they fire me if I don't tell them up front? If I call the company who is garnishing me and present them with my new pay stub and promise to pay them 25 percent will they even consider this? Or should I talk to a debt counselor and try to file bankruptcy?
