I received a phone call fro 877-754-3383 asking me to verify a loan by stating my name. I resonded, "I didn't request a loan." The message continued saying I was entitiled to a shopping card and something else. I didn't apply and don't want anything. I can't seem to find much information regarding this phone number. Any ideas how I can find out about this company?

OK, here goes... Not too long back, I was contacted by a small-time debt collector in my state. This debt collector apparently specializes in the collection of medical bills. I was contacted and told that I had a $58 balance from last year, from a surgery that I had. Problem is, I didnt have any surgery, or in fact, any procedure/visit at all to the surgical center that they claimed I owed the money to. So, I sent a DV letter. Rather than validate the debt, they continued to call and send letters.

Has anyone here allowed a debt to reach the point where suit is filed ( original creditor/ CA / or litigation agents of the aforementioned) before making a final settlement attempt? Does anyone think it's an effective strategy? After all, settling out of court at the 11th hour is no worse than settling somewhere between chargeoff and whenever ... (regarding credit status, right?). This is obviously a drawn out solution, but if that's not an issue, one could improve cash flow and stave off the final blow on credit record (that SIF makes).

I have a situation and could use some advice on what to do next. I was contacted by NOrthland Group to collect on an old debt to Shell. I sent a DV and they replied saying my account had been closed and returned to their client North Star Capital. I sent a dv to them with no repsonse, however, I faxed it not mailed it. (I know, stupid) anyway, I pulled a copy of my credit report and Zenith is listed under collections for the shell account. I know zenith and notrthstar are the same.

Hi, I rented a property and the landlord agreed to reduce the rent. At the end of the lease, I moved out and the landloard is now suing me for the balance. I have to go to court now. If I loose the case, do i have to pay the balance on the spot? Thks

hey, i am just stopping by :) i have personal info here so i did not want this in the Pub section.. I have been away for a while.. i was out of work since June for an illness.. and everything got of hand, i was evicted (gotta be out in a couple of days), dealt with family illness and still am not physically ready to go back to work. that is why i have been away.. but i do miss this board and hope maybe later next months things will settle and i can be back here full time. i hope everyone is having a wonderful summer, take care.

I've noticed on some motions to strike, they just list generic items such as plaintiff has no evidence, falls under hearsay, etc. - while other motions also cite caselaw. Which is the correct way?

I am back in the payday loan cycle and need guidance on what my options may be to get out the cycle. I have also been reading the forums for some time and have gained some wonderful knowledge/advice. To begin, I live in Texas. From what I gather from the posts, internet based payday loans may be illegal while storefronts acting as CSOs are legal. So I am going to break this up into internet based and storefronts.
