I live in TN. In Jan. 2008 I filed chapter 7 bankruptcy, it was all discharged in May 2008 with no problem. I was supposed to receive a settlement in August 2008 due to a wrongful death case involving my father that happened in 2003. Since I was suppose to receive this settlement the same year I filed bankruptcy, I had had to pay back over $10,000 of debt to creditors which I was all ready released. I didn't get the remainder of my settlement until May 2009. I just want to know if this is legal and sounds right?

I have lot of business and personal credit card debt I sold my business and pay outstanding debts but stiil owe a lot.out business sale proceeds paid some money to relatives which I borrowed from them. my attorney advice me not make any payment for credit card debts and file bankruputcy 1 year afom the date of sale. Is it good advice? what are hassle waiting that long

Hi, I received a settlement offer from a collection agency, but noticed that they do not have an account number anywhere on the letter, only a "reference number" (which is different than the account number of the original credit card.) Is this a red flag? Or do many collection agencies not list an actual account number? I was going to mail them a counter-offer for settlement, but want to make sure they actually own the debt. (I was stupid and didn't do a DV in time.) :-( Any suggestions?

i just got a call stating that they are sending me summons that i owed usbank 2350.00 4 yrs ago and what could happen they are telling me that they can settle down for 1000.00 but i cannot come up with it all the way. what they can do, if i show up to court will the judge be on creditors side or mine.

I have been getting daily calls for 2 months now on my cell phone from 800-392-4029. It's an automatic recording message, the caller did not even identify themselves, or the company that they work for. The person that calls is extremely rude, and says "this is a very important matter. This call is for "YOU", "YOU" need to know why we're calling you. This is major harassment, and this calls are not even for me!!! What should I do to stop this craziness? Thanks for your time.
