How do I make arrangements to payoff my loan?

I had a Providian credit card about 10 or so years ago that was lost. I reported it lost when I noticed and ended up w/a almost $4k debt on a $1k credit limit. Now I am making payments to a law firm that has threatened to sue me. If the card was lost, why am I paying? What can I do?

Do I have to pay for credit card debts that I did not sign for on my husbands credit cards since he is deceased?

I recently received a letter from Portfolio Recovery Associates regarding time barred debt from 1994. I fired off a letter demanding validation of these debts and also a stop calling letter. This also prompted me to check my credit reports. Last year I checked all three reports and they were all clean. I tried to check all three today and was only able to get the Experian report on line. I have to write for the other 2, for some reason they will not allow me to access them online. In any event the Experian shows an old store credit card from 1988.

i have had the same problems! they even called my grandparents saying that i was writing bad checks and there pursuing me for fraud! I have paid some money to them to get them off my backs but after reading all of this im not paying anymore. Its a collection for payday loan yes, and i always talk to a girl named jenna winslow. I have requested a letter or somekind of notification several times but i receive nothing! Am I right to ignore them from now on and what happens if they contact my family again??

I have heard that Amex is quick to file suit. We are 3 months late on two cards and about to be three months late on a third. Two cards are in my name and one is in my wife's. Total debt between the three is $45K. Received two letters on Friday canceling two of the accounts. No legal threats but did say cancellation may cause negative reporting to credit agencies and possible referral to CA. Has anyone had experience/opinion about likelihood of Amex suit. Thanks

So I'm seeing all over this board advice to report unlicensed lenders to FTC, BBB and State AG's... When we submit a complaint, what verbage should we use? What exactly are we reporting or complaining about? What is the AG gonna actually care about? "They lent me money, but weren't licensed to, and now I'm not going to pay them the interest they weren't entitled to charge me"... ok, so what? what's the complaint? "They lent me money, and didn't tell me that they weren't licensed?" ok, this may be true, but doesnt' seem to have much bite to it...

I was wanting to pay off an old bank account but, I have been reading about RJM Acquistions LLC. What do you recommend?
