Questions about Debt Settlement

Hi, I'm thinking about using a company called Prestiege Financial Solutions to settle my debt. I feel pretty confident in using them but I'm worried about being sued. Do creditors still come after you and try and sue, attack your wages, etc, etc even though you are trying to settle your debt? I keep seeing that they normally don't come after you but I hear from lawyers that they do! Plus is it really that easy to work with creditors to settle my debt on my own. I know it will save me a lot of money but it's nothing I have experience in.

Suing a Collection Agency

I'm unsure if the case I have is solid and I have been unsuccessful at getting a lawyer (that was referred to me by my employers help agency) to call me back. So I figured I would bring it to this forum. First off - is there a time limit on suing a collection agency for violations? I was contacted in October of 2009. A collector called my office looking for me. I was transferred the call.

Urgent! Can I stop payment on this check?

Hi everyone. I wrote a check to a bill collector for a monthly payment on a past due account I have been paying on. I called this week to tell them the check would not clear and I needed to make the payment 4 days later. They said it was too late to stop the check. If the check hits my account, it will be insufficient fund. The lady at the bank says I can put a stop payment on it. That would be less than the returned check charge. My question is should I stop payment on the check or should I let it go insufficient funds?

What does "NA" mean for Recent Balance?

Hello, I recently settled two debts. The accounts have been updated on my credit reports, and are now showing "NA" for the High Balance and Recent Balance. How is "NA" interpreted? Is it considered the same as a zero balance? On my Experian credit report, one account shows: Status: Paid, Closed High Balance: NA Recent Balance: NA On the other account, it shows: Status: Paid in settlement High Balance: NA Recent Balance: NA Creditor's Statement: Account legally paid in full for less than full balance. Thank you in advance for providing clarification. Sincerely, Rinnie

Spouse's responsiblity to answer to debt collectors

Hello, I am curious as to what my role is when I answer the phone and an agency is looking to collect on my husband's old debt. Midland Credit Management called, and stated they were attempting to collect a debt (which was before I even knew him) and wanted me to start a repayment plan. No way I was giving money from my account on this, and I told them it wasnt my debt and therefore not my responsibility. Was this correct that I said this? Also the woman on the line said, "So then do you want me to put this as refused to pay?

Law Firm of Joe Cardis, LLC Anyone know anything???

I received a call today from a "Mr.Rexroad" from the Law Offices of Joe Cardis, LLC in Pennsylvania. I am in Illinois. He stated that he was calling in regards to my balance with a community college in Illinois, a college that I did in fact take classes at. I though it was a little wierd that someone from PA would be trying to file a legal claim against someone in IL...

Citi Bank and debt validation

I got a letter from an attorneys office representing Citi Bank. The name of the office is Allen L. Adkins and Associated, P.C. in Lubbock Texas. I received a letter stating that I owed Citi 9k so I immediately sent a debt validation letter. Guess what I got in return? A letter from them stating that they did receive my letter but they are advising me of the denial of any inaccuracy regarding my account! And that they had verified this amount with their client Citi. And also that this letter is being supplied as verification of the above referenced info -citi. Isnt this against the law?
