i co-signed for my soon to be ex-daughter in laws student loan (sallie-mae) she has defaulted, and now they are calling me. i am a recent widow and have no resources to pay this. they have told me the federal government will come after me for any assets. is this true? or a scare tactic?

I've read some of the posts here and i will gather some further details so that a clear picture will be provided. My immediate concern is stopping MY Cash Now from taking any future payments. I don't want to close my account- I have many automatic transactions linked to that account including my payroll. I plan to have my credit union put a Stop payment and initiate an ACH dispute against them and their alternate name Credit Protection. Does anyone know if they - My Cash Now has an email or fax that i can send a C & D letter to. Also how to contact their ACH processor?

Hello, I'm attempting to settle a credit card debt with First National Bank of Omaha. Today, when I mentioned I'm looking to settle they offered to settle for 20 percent of the balance (card is some 90 days past due). I'd like to accept it, but they refused to send a letter or e-mail confirming the offer and that makes me nervous. I spoke with both an account rep and a manager who said it's policy that they won't send a letter.

I currently have a default s.l that is under wage garnishment. I am trying to get it out of garnishment however AES/ PHEA will not work with me on payments at all... I went to Consumer Credit Counseling a year ago and they were not able to help, siting that we did not make enough to make a monthly payment. I work full time and my husband is self employed. The IRS is already taking money from my paycheck. We have over 15k of unsecured debt and are getting harrassing calls, letters and starting to get court notices. I have been on this site several times and have gotten great advice. I am dealing with Bank of America and have settled one credit card with them that was 16K for 5K, now I have another that just went to charge off in Dec and today I got a call from the pre legal department and was harrassed by a very nasty man there. Can anyone tell me about this " pre legal department". He pretty much threatened a lawsuit, and told me to borrow the money from any source I could and that if I hadnt went out and charged luxuries that I would be able to pay my bills.

I have used your great advice to settle with my many payday loan companies. It was a huge mistake in the first place to take them out but from 7 loans I am only dealing with 3. United Cash Loans, Ace Cash Services, and Impact/PDL Ventures. I have written and e-mailed them the letters as suggested asking for license and what not. As I am in the state of Minnesota.
