I received a letter from LTD Acqusitions dated Oct 12th, 2009 informing me that they purchased an old defaulted credit card account from Chase and that I have 30 days to dispute it. I called Chase and they told me they sold the account to LTD on March/2009. So I pulled my credit report today and was shocked to see that LTD has been reporting this account on my credit reports since March 2009. Can they report a debt to the credit bureaus before they even contact me about it? Do I have grounds to sue LTD? If so, what law did they violate?

Hi I need a little advice on dealing with two collection agencies. This is a Salli Mae account that I co-signed for, well it went into default and I settled with a agency in May of this year for 8k. Last week I received a call from another company saying that I still owe the remaining balance of $4K. I was so caught off guard by this that I dont remember ever receiving a payoff letter from NES. I spoke to then on Friday and they told me that there computers say that they offered me the settlement and that I excepted it but they needed to contact Salli Mae.

So one of the legal PDL's filed a summons against me a few weeks ago. The advice I got from the very nice court clerk was to let them get a default judgment because I was not disputing that I owed the money. I did so and she told me to contact them directly to make payment arrangements. I sent a letter (cc'd CFSA since they are a member) requesting payment arrangements. I have not heard anything from them yet, but I did receive a letter from a CA on their behalf. The letter from the CA did not include court costs which according to the summons I had to pay.

I want to call my credit card companies and haggle for a lower interest rate. Any must do's to be successful? Is it better if they think my debt payments exceed my monthly income or vice versa? I'm right on the edge, so could spin it either way. Anything else to know? I've never done this before and would welcome any tips from people who've been there, done that! Shawna

Trying to figure out when my 180-day period (write off) date would be on a card... Last payment was 5/1/09 (the due date was 5/9/09).. and no payments since then. The CC is stating that it's write off at 11/1/09. But I thought the days started counting after your first late payment, which in this case would be 6/9/09. Anyone know how this is calculated? It's for A BOA account... Trying to work on settlement. The lowest offer I have so far is 35%. I've heard can get 25% w/in the last week or so of the write off, but I'm not sure when that is... any feedback is welcome!

I had enrolled in the program with Global Debt Management last September and they just settled my second credit card yesterday. I was really skeptical in the beganning because of all the bad press on debt settlement companies. But I am glad to say I am very happy so far with them. My 1st 2 cards they settled for me at 40cents on the dollar. I only got 5 cards left. So hopefully if they keep settling around 40 cents I will be out of debt 12 months sooner than expected. Ok I have been buried in debt for the for the past couple of years now. I always made my payments but do the the poor economy and the stupid rates the cc companies decided to raise their rates to. They payments turned into minimums and I was getting nowhere fast. I finally broke down and decided to get some help and advice. I work at a small bank and I showed all my bills to my boss and head lender.
