Knowing where to start

16 years 9 months ago
As part of a reduction in force, my husband took an 80% paycut at the beginning of June and lost his job the first week of July. He is trying to get hired with a state government agency and we know that part of the application process is a credit check. We have salvaged our credit so far in hopes that he'll be hired in September. Sadly, he'll be in training for nearly a year and we won't have enough to pay ALL the bills between now and then.

Where to start????

Hello everyone. I am so glad i have found you all and I am so glad I am not the only one in debt. I am trying to repair my credit so I can buy a house. I have a few charge offs that were the result of starting over after divorce. Some of these have been turned over to collection agencies and some have not. Should I try to settle for less and get the pay to delete or should I pay the whole amount in full? Which looks better for the home buying process? Thanks in advance for you help!!

Regions bank

It seems that some branches will tell you that they are still using chexsystems but they are not. They do however use EWS. Unfortunately they check with EWS AFTER the account is opened. If you are reported to EWS, they will close the account so be sure not to set up direct deposit until about a week or so after it has been opened.

NCO Financial Systems - 13 year old debt?

16 years 9 months ago
I just received a letter from NCO regarding a cellphone account I had 13 years ago. I do not recall owing any money when I closed the account and they are unable to provide any evidence. I don't want to pay this debt but am afraid they may ruin my credit. Trying to find out what the statute of limitations would be on a debt of this type. Even if the statute has run out, can they report to a credit agency that it is an unpaid debt? Not sure how to proceed and wondering if anyone has had a similar experience? Thanks in advance.

Credit after debt settlement

16 years 9 months ago
I am curious to know what kind of credit score I can expect 2 years after settlements are complete. Will be able to get a mortgage assuming I have perfect payment for the 24 months following and 2 years of steady income. I know FHA loans accept BK after 2 years if the above criteria are met. Is it the same with Debt settlement. Cant see how it could be worse, but you never know. Anyone go through this already?

Did a Bill Collector Send This?

16 years 9 months ago
There was a business card size, plastic envelop, with a clear see through front pocket, stuck to the inside of my mailbox. It was stuck because it had adhesive on the back side. Inside the clear pocket was a card with a bar code on it. The card also had my town, state, and zip code on it. In big letters was the word THURSDAY. There was a date in the left hand corner. It was dated 07 28 09, and a time. NLM was printed on this card, and beneath the NLM are four black slanted lines. Can anyone tell me what this card means? It did not have any name printed on it.

Help!! PDL Fraud Question

16 years 9 months ago
I took out some payday loans and have not yet paid anything on them yet. I went to my bank today and closed out my account because I had some fraudulent activity and also because if I let these companies take their fees, I will have nothing left. My question is, are the payday loan companies going to come after me for fraud? It was not my intention to close out my account but I cannot risk any more fraudulent activity and I also don't want these companies taking every last dime I have.

Collection Agencies posting new account onl my credit report

16 years 9 months ago
Can a collection agency post a new account entry on your credit report? I thought only the original creditor was able to do that. I now have two (2) accounts on my credit reports for the same thing. It just doesn't seem right.
