I received a phone call from Lilly @ Thompson & Thompson Attorneys (so they claim). She told me I have a "pending summons" that is being sent to my home if I do not contact them today. First - does anyone know if this company is for real? Second - can they issue a "pending summons" whatever that might mean?

I defaulted on my mortgage for 2 months and my credit score went from 703 to 610. I signed up for the obama help homeowners plan, got accepted for 3 months and i am in the proccess of getting help from my motgage for a loan modification. I have about 30k in credit card debt and the lady from the hope hot line was telling me to stop paying my credit cards.. i know i would be offered settlements and etc downt he road after being late and was wondering if its going to hurt my credit score even more? and how long would it hurt it for?

Hey I have another question for my sister :( She is going to give Cash Jar (an illgeal lender whom she borrowed $300 from and did not pay anything back on it yet.) She is freaking out because they keep calling, emailing her at home and work. She bought a Green Dot card to pay them (even though I still think she should stick to a no address, no payment policy on non legal lenders). I know she will pretty much do whatever she wants anyway and I just wanted to know if this is a safe way to pay.

What is the impact on the credit score from settling a debt? I was informed that requesting the company to state on the credit report paid in full. How did it impact your credit score?

My husband's Capital One's went into collections after he lost his business and we had to simultaneously care for two ill parents. It went first to RAB, then to Blitt and Gaines. We sent 4 letters (certified, return receipt) to them requesting a copy of original signed contract between them and Capital One authorizing them to collect, as well as copies of statements, etc., but received nothing. We don't dispute the existence of a debt, just the amount and payee.

Hi everyone. Long story short - I have a second mortgage with Bank of America (originally Countrywide). I bought a home for $290k in April 2006. Citi has the first mortgage for $232k; B of A has the second for $58k. The B of A loan has an interest rate of 9.375%. Each month I pay almost $500 in pure interest. I know - it was stupid to take the loan. But I did. Anyway, lost my job and found a new one, but at 15% less pay. Meanwhile my house value has dropped precipitously - now it's worth (optimistically) $200k.

Just got a letter from chase that my minimum payment will be 5%. From $660 to $1600. Yet another blow from a cc company. BofA had raised my interest unknowingly from 12% to 22%. Didn't catch until 5 months later. Current and never late on every single account. Overall debt cut by 35% during the last 2 years and somehow they seem like they're forcing me to choose either settlement or BK and I really don't want to do either. I lost it on the phone with Chase and all they could do is refer me to credit counseling.

I sent Outback bucks a C&D letter through certified mail, regular mail, fax, and UPS. Except for the fax, all of the letters have been returned because they refused to sign for them. They are contacting me several times per day at home and at work. I do owe them $400 which was the original loan amount and I want to pay them back but they will not answer my emails on where to mail the money. Any suggestions?

Yep, you heard it right, a debt collector was actually arrested several days ago!! I posted a piece not too long ago about these people but did not know the debt collection manager company's name. These are the people that would call up consumers while impersonating law enforecement officers and would threaten them with arrest if they did not pay debt. A reporter went undercover to one of their offices and caught an agent on hidden camera threatening someone over the phone into paying a bill. Well, Toby Boyland, the owner...has been arrested!!
