I am thinking of consolidating my debt. Of course the debt will be reduced; but how will that effect my credit score. I filed bankruptcy several years and finally getting a good score and I don't want to ruin it again. Thanks for any responses.

I went to a university for a year, stayed on campus in the dorms, filled out FAFSA did all that jazz and came out fine. The following year I also stayed on campus but didn't file FAFSA due to some issues at home. I picked up a job and hoped I'd be able to pay off any debt I incurred while going throughout that school year. The fall semester went by and I ended up accumulating something close to $5,000 dollars in debt that I couldn't pay off. I was registered for the spring semester and started it.

Is anyone having any luck with WAMU? They have been so rude and unwilling to help.

Recently there has been some discussion in this forum regarding FreeStar Financial. I wanted to provide details from my personal experience so that others in my situation can benefit. I called FreeStar and spoke with Steve Abelman who is one of the principals for 30 minutes. I wanted to find out all the details about Debt Settlement, i.e. the good, the bad and the ugly. Steve patiently explained that debt setlement is not for everyone and that in order to succeed you need to brace yourself and be strong willed while you are being chased after by the creditors and collection agencies.

Last year we filed bankruptcy (a ch 7) and now we are in the process of trying to rebuild our credit. I know that the ch. 7 will stay on my report for 10 years so I want to make that my only flaw. I do have a collection on there from the gas company at the old house for $700. I really can afford to pay all of it now, but I was hoping to maybe negotiate it down a bit. I tried to write a letter to them asking for some kind of agreement. I have never heard anything back from them. I tried to call once with my cell, and the guy kept calling me back on it non-stop for a month.

I have 9 internet payday loans and need to find a way to get out of them. For most of them I have paid more than the principal amount I borrowed. Since it is starting to affect my other bills I need to get off of this vicious cycle. I am in the State of Wash and have read that if the lender is not licensed I am only liable for the principal amount owing. I have checked the DFI site and only two of the lenders are registered. Does anyone have any advice?

I was paying all of my credit cards on time until I decided to enroll in a debt management program with my credit union. I thought that it was time to close all of my cards and just focus on paying them off. It all started down hill when the financial couseling people and the banks had miscommunications regarding the amounts due and the due dates. As a result my credit is way worse than before I started the program and I have recovered from the mountain of late fees and such.

Are they considered legal in va. They tried to tell me they are instanment loan as the rollover automaticially takes 10% of principle. I filed complaints with FTC and SCC and Attorney General.
