can I go to jail????

18 years 2 months ago
Just wondering if I can get jail time if I can't afford their (cc) terms in court. I only make about 800/mo and my half of the bils(shared with fiance) come to about 600...and I am now 10 weeks pregnant and have a 3 yr old little boy. I am very scared and I don't want to be pregnant in jail. Whats the worst that could happen? I have never really been in court before and don't know what to expect?? Thanks~Angie

need some advice please

I was served a summons from a creditor yesterday by a person in a FedEx jacket. My husband answered the door and the FedEx guy gave my husband the summons from an envelope and my husband asked if there was anything he needed to sign, the FedEx guy just said "make sure you give this to your wife" and walked away. I was talking to my co-worker friend and she said that if it was an actual summons it would have the County seal and someone from the Sheriff's office would have delivered it and had me sign something, which I did not nor did my husband and the papers do not have the County seal.

Payday loan help

18 years 2 months ago
I just figured out how to post a new thread - sorry about that. Here's my original message and then I'll fill in the specifics about the loans. Hi, I'm also new to this site and pretty clueless as to how to post etc. I'm in a terrible situation and am desparate. I have at least 8 payday loans (some have to be paid in full every pay day others roll over)and I keep getting deeper and deeper in because I don't have the money to payback, therefore, I get another just to live.

Prefered Method of Payment to CAs

18 years 2 months ago
I recently discovered a debt posted on my credit report from a CA. I contacted the CA by phone, verified the full amount & now am ready to settle my debt in full. What is the best payment method? I am hesitant to send them a personal check; I do not want them to have access to my account #s. Is a bank issued money order, accompanied by a request for payment received verification via mail, an acceptable approach? My other concern is, how do I know that this debt is in fact completely closed once I send off payment? Is there a specific form/statemant I should request from the CA?

Can I be living in FL and be bank levied in NY for a jdmt?

18 years 2 months ago
I have lived in FL for 3 years only to find out the other day that my BOA account had been levied. The question is: I was sued in NY by a credit card Co in 06 and I have been a resident in FL since 05. The judgement went in the Credit Card Co favor (I knew nothing of this because everything was being sent to my NY old address). A year and 1/2 later hence the levy. I did open the BOA account in NY. Should that make a difference since under FL statue 222.2 they can not levy my account if I am a resident, and head of househould(I live by myself). SOMEONE, PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Collection agency handing the account back to the creditor

18 years 2 months ago
First, a bit of backstory. Eight years ago I get a call when I was in college, from First Financial Bank in South Dakota. They said that I owed them $5800 on a credit card with a $1000 limit that someone had apparently maxed out years ago and let accrue interest and penalties. I didn't remember ever having a credit card with them, or anybody else, but they said they had my SSN, my signature, my address (the address they had on file was a PO Box in my hometown).

If I owe the IRS, will I get my stimulus check? Read more...

18 years 2 months ago
Here is something interesting I found in my local paper today. It does say that if you owe the IRS, they will take it and apply to what you owe. However, make note of the section in bold. I do owe the IRS but I am on a formal repayment plan. Can someone find on irs.gov where it states that you will not get your check if you owe AND on a payment plan with the IRS? Q: I'm retired and owe about $775 in back taxes. I've filled out my 1040A tax form to get a $300 stimulus check.
