My husband and I are in $20,000 of debt that we are having a great problem paying. This is spread over several credit cards. Several are in collections. Several have offered a settlement but want the payment in full...which is out of the question. Except one...but should I pay that if I go decide to go with a debt settlement company? We are a house payment behind. Our car will be paid off next month. We are struggling to make it without the debt..which is how the debt became such an issue. Anyway...I don't know what to do.

I have sent Revocation letters to my pay day lenders so far 3 have gotten back to me none of which r willing to work with me they all said ok there turning them over for collection I was wondering what do I do next? THEY ALSO TOLD ME COLLECTIONS WILL BE NASTY

Is consolidating credit cards a good idea or no? Consumer credit counseling of America called me and said they could consolidate my credit cards and my Cash Call loan and that it would not affect my credit at all in a negative way. Is this true? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sheila

I know they can pull your file, the question is about a time limit. Does this 10 year rule actually exist?

Well, I have started on my path to debt reduction. I am doing this on my own with out the assistance of any company or individual. The first step I took was a drastiv change for me. I traded in my truck this weekend. I am in the residential design/construction field and with the recent downturn in new home starts, my business has suffered - thus putting my family in a bind. I traded in my 04 Dodge 2500 diesel 4x4 for a 2001 Dosge 1500 2 wheel drive truck.

I am just joined here at this forum and reading thru some of the stories and information you all have posted has given me the the courage and the hope that I can do what i need to do to give get my wife and I out of debt and on the road to a happy fun filled marriage. I am in the military and constanlty deployed to all parts of the world, each of these deployments seems to put us just a little further in the hole no matter how hard we try to save up money. Be it car problems and repair bills while i am away or a meriad of other problems.
