debt collectors calling for a defaulted student loan

18 years 11 months ago
I am a single mother and soul provider of twin boys. I am on welfare and take home around $200 a week. Each month I am in the negetive. I have defaulted student loans, at one point i tried to work out a payment plan but couldn't start paying until a month later. The collector became very arrogant and told me then in that case there was nothing we could work out, he would start garnishing my wages.etc etc.

Is it a proper letter?

18 years 11 months ago
I’m trying to settle a 3 years old credit card debt. I have around $50,000 in credit card debt but right now I’m taking only about one, which is around 12,000. Using the sample letters and forms posted on this and the other related sites I sent a letter to a collection agency with an offer to settle my debt in full for 25% and report it as paid in full to credit agencies.

Finally Some Good News :)

18 years 11 months ago
My husband talked to the PDL people today at the storefronts since we BOTH have some out at each place, and all but one was willing to work with us as far as a payment plan goes. They all said that after the check is returned to them as unpaid, they will set up the plan. That was wonderful news today :) There still leaves the Check N' Go storefront who did not want to hear a word of it, but we will just pay mine off there since the others will be at a workable level. What a weight off my shoulders :) I jusy wanted to share my great news so other people can see there is hope :)

Derogatory info. on credit reports

18 years 11 months ago
Question 1: Can anything be done about creditors who show a negative debt on your credit reports as active (date reported)and it's been over the 7-year bad debt reporting limit? I have had (notice past tense)legitimate bad debts from the 80's and 90's. HOWEVER, those debts are WAY past the seven year limit to be reported. When I asked one creditor to remove the listing, he told me that as long as he keeps showing current (2005, 2006, 2007) dates reported, he can keep that bad debt on my reports.
