when you elect to compromise on a student loan that is in collections, reducing the total by paying it in one lump sum... what are the drawbacks to this? (how does it affect your credit rating and suchforth) thank you

If an account has been charged off, do the pymts still go to the orig company, or a collection agcy? Does the orig company still try to contact you? I was under the impression that if the acct was charged off, you had to deal w/ a collection agcy only. Thks.

I am having a problem with them. Apparently they got my cfredit report and called me. Not an specific client.. they just sated what was there and made threats. Now they call wanting to "update" information. They mentioned my student loans and forberance and also a debt which is over SOL.

Ok everyone.. I've been on this board a long time, and I've seen a few ugly situations. From time to time, it seems that we get bombarded with nasty posters who try to kill morale. I'm concerned right now, because I've heard a lot of comments about how this board is going in a bad direction. I've also heard of more than one valuable member who is thinking about leaving the board for good. Please reconsider! We always have to remember, this is a messageboard. These people who come here and attack us are bored, silly nimwits. When we get upset and take it to heart it means they've won.

Is it true that you are only required to pay a minimum of $5.00 per month to a CA and they can't take further action??

I wanted to know if they can take money out of your account for a judgement in the state of Texas. I have no judgements at this time but may need this info at a later time.I talked to a bankruptcy attorney and he told me they could not garnish wages in Texas but did not say anything about them taking money out of my account.Also,if they could, would they be allowed to take out social security money? I would really appreciate your input.
