My bankruptcy was discharged on May 31st. What steps should I take toward restoration of credit?

Hi I recently sent the letter that was provided on this site to Asset acceptance to validate a debt that they have been sending me collection notices on. They sent me a letter with the original creditor info, but that was all. Needless to say the info was not correct. They did not send me any of the info that the letter asked for such as the orginal signed contract, their certification that they are legally allowed to collect in my state, the payment history with the original creditor, etc. My question is what should my next step be?

I am 21 and stupidly fell into credit card debt. I am in college and am thinking about taking next semester off because I owe so much. I owe $5000 on one credit card and everytime I pay $150 on it my finance charges put me back up again! How can debt consolidation help me? I have 3 other credit cards and I was wondering what an average monthly payment would be with debt consolidaton. Also, does debt consolidation affect your credit negatively in any way?

Due to a divorce, I filed bankruptcy about 7 years ago. :( I did not reaffirm with my mortgage company and eventually (about 2 years later), I let the house go back because I couldn't keep up with the repairs and such as a single mom. :cry: Other than these two instances, my credit has been excellent :) (and I have had lots of it). I am now remarried to a man that was in the military and was sent to Iraq. :cry: Upon his return, jobs were scarce and we lived on our credit cards for a few months until he got a job. :o As a result, we have quite a bit of debt.

I have about 30K of debt on 4 different credit cards. The highest interest rate is 8.9 and the lowest is at 0%. We have a good credit rating around 700. We're making minimum payments on all the cards and getting nowhere fast as we don't have enough income to power pay one of the cards down. We need to consolidate to get a fixed payment so we can pay down the principle. Any Suggestions?
