When you consolidate your debt, is it only for credit cards, or can you consolidate all types of debt? Loans, medical bills and the like?

My husband and I recently purchased a home in 3/16/05 and we are now faced with 20,000 debt. We need either refinancing or some sort of consolidation. Is this possible. We are current on the house to this day.
