Hi, I'm new to this group. Was actually inquiring on my roommate's behalf. He's gotten himself into trouble with many companies, owing hundreds and even thousands of dollars. My question is: if we live in a different state from which he acquired most of his debts, and also has some in our new home state, is it still possible to consolidate? Would the state laws in which we now reside apply to the debts of the other states?
i'm an international student. my school loans have been sent to a collection agency. i have not been able to make payments regularly so the collectors have been threating me for legal action. i can make small payments but they want the entire sum at once. what can i do?

I was checking out my credit report and I seen them on there and I don't even know who they are. It said I owed money but to who? Do I call them and ask or what? please help!!!
I just checked my credit report for the first time ever. Well according to the Experian report, I owe $821.00 to asset acceptance llc. I have no idea what this is about! I was overseas in Japan when they say that I opened the account. I don't know where to go from here. It says that I made payments for a while and then stopped and then started again and then stopped completely. Part of the months that I was reported as to have made payments I was back in the states.
Maybe I am playing devil's advocate here but I just spent an hour on the phone with a certain company (Take Charge America) and was basically told things about how to reduce my personal expenses or get a second job in order to even qualify for a reduction in debt or smaller payments. Hello? My monthly payments are $1100, they tell me they can get them down to $800 but only after I find an additional $600/mnth in the way of reduced expenses or extra income. Whatever.
