I have attempted to settle my credit card debts on my own. The companies will settle the amount, but the settlement amount has to be paid within 3 months. Is there any way around this??

A settlement by definition is one time payment or over a very limited time frame. Longer arrangements are not settlements but debt management plans. You cannot have it both ways.
