Received a letter yesterday from Stoneleigh Recovery LLC, they had purchased the debt from another financial collection agency! The letter was addressed by using my old married name. I have been remarried for twenty years. Do I answer this since it is definitely time barred? They said if I don't answer they will take it that this debt is valid? I checked my state and I know the SOL. I would think that they haven't sued me or included any paperwork is that they are just fishin' and a notice to cease will take care of it.

I have a pass credit card debt with HBSC Bank which sold it to Midland Funding LLC. I was sent a bill from an attorney from Hosto, Buchan, Prater, P.L.L.C. which represents Midland trying to collect. I sent them a payment of $100 and never heard from them until i received a civil warrant from them. Can i still send a request of validation to them or is it too late? Should i just try to settle the debt before court and if i do so will i still have to go to court?

Has anyone heard of this law firm. Can they legally keep calling me at work?

My private student loans have just been sent to a collection agency and they are asking for $12,000 minimum payment before setting up a payment pla. I read on the U.S. Department of Education website that you can fill out a financial disclosure statement to prove hardship if my wages get garnished. Is that for Federal loans only? I have found that there are options for federal loans but not for private loans. Will a debt collection agency accept a financial disclosure statement and lower my payments if they find hardship?

Knock on wood! I've been dealing with them for a year, and so far things seem to be going okay. I had gone to collections nearly 12 grand in debt, and they helped me work out a payment plan with the CC companies. I've been paying it off slowly now with more manageable payments, and I've been getting regular reports in the mail showing my progress. All I can say, is that so for, it's worked out well for me!

I got Notice of Hearing of Superior court from 2 creditors,Citibanks is Order to show re:Monetary Sanctions, the other is from Nordstrom is Case Management Conference, dates are 15 days apart.What can I do for preparing these hearing, I am In Debt Settlement of Care One Credit for 21/2 years, was settled and paid off 7 creditors already. please advice. So just received a written response to a letter sent to them earlier in the year asking to verify the debts and not contact until they are able. I pulled that letter from one posted here earlier in the thread. The response was don't have to per FDCPA 53 FEd Reg 50097, 50108-09 Dec 13 1998 verification involves nothing more than collector confirming in writing that the amount is what creditor is claiming is owed. debt collector not required to keep detailed files- this is onlyy to eliminate the problem of collectors dunning the wrong person or collecting debts which are already paid.

I have a CA calling me demanding payment in full for a student loan that supposedly went into default, even though I did not receive anything from the original loaner. I owe the money but cannot pay the entire amount they are demanding, but they will work with me they say. However, I have never heard from this company before and they want an immediate down payment then 6 post dated checks with no assurance that they won't take more in the future.
