I am a receptionist at a law firm. I received a summons for a credit card debt which I was unable to pay because I lost my job and was unemployed for a year. I asked one of the attorneys I work with about this and he said there is nothing I can do because I owe the debt unless I could prove that the debt was not mine. He said the best I can do is offert to settle or make payment arangments. He said the judge would see my unemployment as an excuse not a defense. Is it worth it for me to purchase one of these self-help kits on line for $37?
