My last payment to Chase on a $13K CC debt was in January. Today the website has $0 balance. Was I charged off? Seems too early for that. They are unwilling to settle with me.

When my father was alive I had a credit card under his name to buy things for him or to do things at his request. If I spent any money on it for me I paid the bill for that. When he passed away he was carrying a high balance on it around $16,000.00. It is on my credit report and was charged off when he died. They never filed a claim in the estate. They have never come after me for the debt personally but is there anything I can do about my credit report? Having a $16,000.00 bad debt has seriously tanked my credit, it also has taken up a major part of my debt to income ratio.

This morning I received a message to call this company. I have a rather large outstanding credit card debt but due to my husband's cardiac arrest and being left with an anoxic brain injury we have been forced to retire. We are living only on SS and it is a struggle to make ends meet. I tried working with a debt consolidation group but the payment was so high I could not continue it. So I am just struggling with a "what to do" mode at this time. Should I send a letter to these people explaining my situation. This is so upsetting and I don't know what to do..

what happens after you have told unlicensed pdl that they are illegal. they then turn around and sell loan to collection agency or someone else?

I have been contacted by a 3rd party collection stating i owed money to The cash store. My boyfriend took this loan out in 2005 and one day i went to pay it for him. He later filled bankruptcy on them. Now 5 yrs later I am being called and stating I owe $1355 for breach of contract. However I was not working at the time and all the info they have listed on my "file" is all of my boyfriends info..His place of employment at the time, his refrences.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the great info--I am in this mess, but am trying to get myself out of it. I currently have a loan with My Cash Now, it was originally for $600 and based on what I have paid, only have about $50.00 that I need to pay to pay off the principle. Has anyone had contact with them recently (I saw older posts)? They do have an online contact form (could not find a fax#) and mailing address for Republic of Panama.

[COLOR=black]i met with an attorney for the first time today and she said it was $3000 to file a chapter 13 with $850 upfornt and it was $2250 to file for chapter 7. Can anyone tell me if this seems reasonable. My case is pretty simple i think. Is it worth trying to do it yourself? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.[/COLOR]

I had a business which went south during the economic downturn. Orders got scarce and debt kept mounting. I am planning to file bk and let the trustees liquidate the assets to pay creditors. However, I am worried stiff as how much this bk would affect my personal credit score. So far I was able to maintain good score of 700-ish and was never late on payments.

I received a call from AvanteUSA regarding money owed from a school loan that i supposedly didn't finish paying. About a year ago I took out a personal loan to pay off the remainder of my student loan (to SallieMae) and to pay off some other credit card debt that i had acquired. One thing that I found odd was that i didn't get any letters or calls from the school regarding this outstanding balance. Receiving this called shook me and I agreed to settle and set a payment 2 installment payment. I then did some searching and came across this site.
