I made "arrangements" to pay on a very old debt because they were going to take me to court and I was caring for my sick mother. I signed papers outside the courtroom just to get it over with, even though I originally only awed them about $1200.00, the upped the total to $4400.00 They filed a judgement against me even though I was making payments.This was back in 2004. I was paying regularly & on time. I only owed them about $2,000 when my mother suddenly died in April 2006. Needless to say I was devastated and it took me a year to handle her personal affairs.

I have an unsecured business line of credit with a balance of about $50k through Wachovia, which is now owned by Wells Fargo. Do these types of accounts offer settlement the same as credit card accounts?

I received a phone call today telling me that an investigator would be at my job tomorrow because of a pay day loan I took out over the internet from a company called "Quick Cash" supposedly this loan was taken out in August of 2009. When I asked the gentleman the name of the law firm he was calling from, he got very aggitated, and gave me a name. However, when I researched with my bank, I never received these funds, and most importantly, I called the Law Firm that this gentleman was calling from and they said that they do not make collection calls. What do I do?

If a collection agency is not licensed to collect in the state where I now live (but may have been licensed in the state where the debt was incurred and from which I moved), can they still try to collect from me? If not, are they obligated to remove the collection from my credit report? Thanks very much!

I need to know which state's statute of limitations applies to a debt. I would assume it would be the state in which the debt was incurred, but I'm not sure if that's true. I live in a different state now. Could it be the state's SOL where I now live? Thanks very much!

I have sent debt validation letters to a number of collection agencies which appear on my credit reports for medical debts. Can someone tell me precisely what documents they should send me copies of that constitute validation of these debts? Do any of them have to contain my signature? Thanks very much!
