Legal action

I just received a phone call from a Tom Fisher who called in regards to paperwork he received in his office. It said it is in regards to a legal affadavit as a request to be served to appear in court in regards to a pending suit that is being filed against me. The phone call was a notice of intent. I googled the phone number which is 877-282-6174 and others had written it is a debt collector. This man said he will be arriving at my house. There was no company name or name of the company I owe left on the message. Is this legit?

How do I avoid hardship programs...just want to settle

Just took my first call from BofA..they immediately wanted to discuss a hardship program. They wanted financial info etc. to see if we qualified. I told her I am sure we don't as we can't pay anything on any card right now and I wanted to discuss w/ my husband. I am sure they will call tomorrow. I don't want any hardship program..I just want to eventually settle..how do I avoid this? Will they keep asking for this info..how do I get past this step and the next which she says is a referral to some national debt management program. Thx in advance.

PayDayOne question

Is Payday one licensed in KY? Somewhere I read that they aren't considered a PDL lender-- then I read that they are NOT supposed to lend in KY & have rec'd a cease & desist letter to that effect. I have a loan out with them & have already closed my bank acct.

Commercial Debt Settlement

I’ve been searching for a reputable debt settlement / restructuring firm to help me reduce my debt and improve cash flow for my business. I see so many conflicting stories on Internet BLOGs for some of the firms which have a big Internet advertizing presence. Can someone recommend firms which are reputable and that do what they say/advertize and don’t rip off their clients? Do these firms actually succeed? Thank-you.

Are Creditor Less Likely To Settle w/DMP

In October of this year, I found myself unable to make the $500 minimum payment on my BofA cc. I called them to see if they could help me. They said the only option I had was to enroll in a DMP because I had $80,000 in debt with various cc's. The representative of BofA transferred me to a DMP but I was not comfortable with their proposal so I went with a company through my credit union. We were only with them for 2.5 months when I realized there was no way I could keep up the $2,000/mo payments for 3 years especially after finding out that we owed $1,500 in taxes this year!

Debt settlement performanced based

Most of the debt settlement companies out there charge roughly 15% of what you owe. Simple enough. the problem with this is that the first three of the payments go to the company and you have yet to save any monies. Over the next 12 months, half of your payment is in trust and half goes to the compnay. Now you are comitted for 15 months and the debt settlement company has been paid and perhaps one or two small deals have been done and you are now in a worse situation than before. Collection agencies or even attorneys are now after you.
