I just recieved a call from Ms. Jackson at an attorneys office stating that "their client" would be filing charges for bad checks in my county for the payday loan i didnt finish paying. However the company she said was not even one that I have heard of and she said i never made a payment??? Can they do this?

My husband has a credit card with Citibank that hasn't been paid on in years. I was worried about getting it settled for a reasonable amount. Today in the mail I got a letter from Northland Group, collecting for Citibank. They made a settlement offer of 2,133.41. The full balance is $10,667.04. I'm sending them a DV letter just to make sure that I'm paying the right people. Once I get the DV back I'm definitely taking the offer. One less worry!

One guy name Shane is calling that he works for paycheck today and cashadvance network. He said that since i have fallen behind. I need to make a payment today or they are going to file legal charges with my state of Hi. He didn't even give me his last name or what company. He said I had 5 hrs to do it. I told him that I am working. He said on my lunch break I need to leave and make a payment. I told him I can't he said that by law they have to let me leave. Is this legal they harrasing me at work when I tell him I can't talk he said yes I can.

I have $53,000 in unsecured debt. I am behind on everything and I'm looking to start settling my debt. What is the best "first step" to take?

I have unsecured debt totalling > $200,000 across around a dozen cards. Over half this is from 5 companies, AMEX, FIA, CITI, BARCLAYS, ADVANTA The ADVANTA & AMEX cards were business accounts but I'm sure are somehow personally guaranteed. Anyway, I'm trying to settle all accounts for 10-40%. If I can get it down under $100K I have the income to ability to make arrangements to pay the rest monthly or just settle as they charge off. This means I MUST settle with AMEX, FIA, CITI, BARCLAYS, ADVANTA before I even consider not filing bankruptcy.

I have 83,000 in credit card debt on 9 different cards, is that to much debt to negotiate myself, I am in credit counceling but it is killing, it is leaving me with nothing at the end of the month.

Hi all! sorry its been awhile again. my phone service was out for 3 WEEKS! and as some of you know i have dial up service so that means no internet for me! But in all honesty i had a hard time comming back. Frankly i think that i needed a break from the forum. Dont get me wrong, i LOVE this site and not only do i get to help others i get to help myself by becoming more knowledgeable about debt, and it always makes me feel better seeing that my little debt could be so much worse.

I was wondering if anyone has done do it yourself debt settlement with a credit union? Is it tougher to get them to settle?

I received a call at work beginning of the month. From a debt collector saying she worked for Simm & Associates. She was rude and nasty and threatened me over the phone (I recorded the calls). She said she was sending me a settlement letter and refused to give me mailing info for their company because "No mail will be coming in or out of this office other than the letter I am sending you, do you understand that!?". She also threatened me. Said they were going to garnish my wages unless I settled with them that day. I was so ticked off. I filed complaints with the BBB and the FTC.

:(I have 3 private student loans through MYRICHUNCLE that i have defaulted on and are currently with a collection agency NCO financial systems. The principal is 70k with another 28k in fees. I am trying to figure out what my potential optioins are. I live in south carolina and I belive it is one of the Four states that do not allow wage garnishment for unsecured debt? Can they get my tax return. Will anyone consolidate these loans or negotiate a discounted settlement and then finance over an extended period of time.
