Paying off old debt to original creditor

16 years 6 months ago
I had a cable bill that went to collections in 2006. I spoke to the cable company (original creditor) last week, and they said they can still accept payment for the account. I do have some collections from early 2003 that will be taken off my credit reports next year, and this will be my only negative account after that. Would I be able to pay off the bill with the cable company and then file with the current collections agency that it is an invalid debt?

As POA for a sibling now in assisted living and on Medicaid, I am seeking the best way to notify sibling's creditors informing them of his inability as of this date to pay his bills. Will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Rodale books not ordered

16 years 6 months ago
I had a Mens Health subscription a while back and after one time of not ordering a book, I paid for it. They contacted me about other offers and I told them no I do not want anything else from them and to never send me anything again. Well a month later I get 3 books that I did not order. It has been about 7 months, I still have the books because you have to pay to return them and I will not do that. Luckly I found out that in 2005 there was a class action lawsuit against them for this same thing, sending books to people who did not order them.

Need Advice.......

I owe 2 different collection agencies a total of $1500. I want to get them payed off and off of my credit report, but I was told that since they are negs on my report they will stay on for 7 years even if I pay them off now. Is this true? Also if they do stay on from the last date of payment for 7 years, what if I pay them and something that will fall off in 3 years will now be 7 years-should I still pay it? Will my credit score go up a little if they are payed and still on the report vs. non paid and on my report?

What's so bad about letting it go to collections?

16 years 6 months ago
As I go through my own debt settlement (wife lost job, my pay was cut) I see posts by many people about doing anything to make sure the OC (original creditor) doesn't send the account to a collection agency. Why? Sure, the account now shows twice on your credit report (first as a charge off, then as a collection item). So what? Your credit is trashed either way. And who needs credit unless you plan on going into debt again? I don't get it... For that matter, what's the big deal with being sued in court? Before, you owed the money.

How does a settlement from a car accident effect filing BK?

16 years 6 months ago
We have been considering BK for the past year or so, since my husband's income has been cut in half. I have $20,000 in CC debt and am in hardship programs with all of them. My hubby has over $40,000 of debt that is not dischargeable in BK and we are trying to pay on it, but it???s been difficult and our payments really don???t even make a dent in the balance owed. Our thinking is, if we file BK we will have more money to put towards paying and/or settling the non-dischargeable debt.
