Collection agency tactics

Hey everyone. First, thanks for the great site. I've learned so much. I had a question and was wondering if you guys could help out. Why do collection agencies use phone calls instead of sending bills / letters out? I have received numerous calls from agencies and they simply expect me to pay a large amount of money over the telephone to a complete stranger. That's ludicrous. But I never receive bills or letters in the mail. And when I ask them to send me a statement, they never do. And they will never share telephone numbers or addresses over the phone either.

Is there any legitimate help out there???

I won't bore you with the details, but I lost my job eight months ago. I do get unemployment (at least for the next couple of months) and I do have a part time job that I took primarily to maintain my sanity. So, clearly, I have some form of income. I received my retirement payout, and expected it to last a bit longer than it did, but nonetheless, it is gone now. I am actively searching for a position that will pay me a good salary, but, my credit was bad to begin with, so it is essentially shot now. My problem is that the bills still come due every month.

Moderating forums

I remember a while back, the decision was made that all mods could moderate all forums; however, I just tried to delete the link in this post http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/members-only/about67625.html and evidently I don't have access to moderate that area? Can someone please enlighten me here?

New U.S. Treasury Rules Help Homeowners with Loan Modification

According the new U.S. Treasury rules, borrowers that have mortgages below $729,750 (one unit), $934,200 (two units), $1,129,250 (three units) and $1,403,400 (four units) will be eligible for the loan modification program. This new figure allows homeowners with the more expensive homes to qualify under their program. One advantage is the U.S. Treasury Department will match interest rate reduction while writing down the principal so your payments are lower than the 31%.

RJM agreed to PFD.. What now???

Ok, so i called them up and basically told them I am out of SOL in my state and the only way they will be getting money from me is to do a PFD thing. The GUY AGREED to it. I asked if I should send a formal letter stating what I wanted and he said NO. He would send me a letter with the stipulations I wanted. If i agreed with it I would then send the money in.... then they would send a receipt out and have it REMOVED COMPLETELY from my report. IS THIS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE???? They are settling for 1/2 the balance on old checking accounts.. WAMU and COMPASS.....

Key Bank Private Student loans

I went to a flight school in Fl. in 2003. Before I started I asked the school rep. if there was income potential to be able to survive financially on the other end of it. I was assured that there was. Key Bank was all to happy to give out the money for the school. It wound up being $76k for 11 months of training. No degree. The only qualification you came out of the school with was to teach other people to fly. You can do the same at your local aitport for a little less than a third of the cost - hindsight. I am flying jets now. I transport hundreds of people a day.
