Paid debt settlement but now being sued

17 years 3 months ago
I entered a debt settlement with Chase bank. The settlement was for three payments. Chase has record of the first two payments, however, says they did not receive the 3rd and final payment. I made the third payment on the date as agreed and have my bank statement showing it was taken from my account. However, what was taken from my account was $300 more than what Chase agreed in writing. I called numerous times, sent a letter with my bank statement. They sent my case to a lawyer whom I also sent confirmation of payment. My case went to arbitration. This is where I made a mistake.

How to Pay a Settlement

17 years 3 months ago
Hi Everyone, I was trying to look throughout the forum but I couldn't find the answer. Once you get a letter from the credit card company on settling, what's the best and fastest way to pay them? Should you use your own personal check linked to a bank account? Cashier's check? Or wire the funds over? Thanks in advance!

Anyone successfully settled with US Bank?

17 years 3 months ago
Has anyone successfully settled with US Bank? If so, was it with them or did it not happen until it went to a collection agency? How many days past due were you before you got a good offer? I have two US Bank VISAs one is mine and one my spouse, both are $20K so the two of them together at 40K are our largest unsecured credit card accounts. I am trying to figure out how much I may need to have in hand to pay them.

Amex sent my accounts to collection agency, now I'm scared!

17 years 3 months ago
I'm just starting down this road of trying to settle my accounts and my first one has gone to a collection agency. Now I am suddenly scared! My account was over 150 days past due because I was on a hardship program with them and when I missed one payment they kicked me off. The thing that really peeves me is that I found out by talking to them this past week that it would have gone to collections anyway, even if I had made every hardship payment on time.

i recently received a letter from a cohen and slamowitz regarding a debt listing bank of america as the original creditor and midland management as the agency they got it from. my thing is they offerect to settle this 11000 for around roughtly 50%. but my concern is the number they listed as the debt theyre collecting on. the supposed original credit card number. i went back to my credit report and not one one of the old debts from bank of america started with the same number.. im not sure how to go about this. id like to think theyre legit.

Citi/Home Depot Trying to Open New Acct

17 years 3 months ago
Citi/Home Depot just closed my account and put me in a 12 month hardship program. This was two monts ago. Now they are calling me and trying to get me to open a new account with them that will go into effect if/when I finish my hardship program. The nerve! I didn't ask for them to close my current account! I don't trust them - I said no. They call every other week to try to get me to open the new account. Any one know why they would do this?

can Discover/ge money bank garnish my social security check? Also, since they are calling every day should I send them a cease and desist letter or wait until it goes to collections?
