I have some credit card debt that I can't afford to pay the minimums on and last month I didn't pay. American Express called my boss at work several times one day looking for me (I wasn't there). I don't mind dealing with debt collectors at home as I try to get out from under this debt, but really want to avoid the humiliation of calls at work. I called them and told them not to call me at work, but is that enough? Do I need to send them something in writing (and if so what)? Will even that work? Thanks for any advice.

I just refinanced my home and tried to pay an old debt. The money was mailed to LVN Funding in Houston Tx. I am guessing they are no longer in business because I just recieved the check and envelope from my loan funding organization explaining they could not find a forwarding address for them. I don't even remember what the debt is for, but it was a prerequisite for the loan. Now I have a 53.00 check with no where to send it. Any suggestions anyone?

How can I do debt settlement on approx. 50,000 with very little extra money left each month and some months no money extra?

I have sent a couple of credit collection agencies DV letters. One in particular has been sent 3 letters now by me, and I have still not heard back from them. Per the FDPCA, does a collection agency HAVE to answer a DV letter? And if so, when they don't answer, does this make the account null and void? I have read and re-read the FDPCA, but my mind is boggled at the moment and my eyes are crossed! Can someone help me out? kat

I want to workout arrangements with both of these pdls. They wouldn't let me do epps. Once I get to collections, I do have a number in Oakland, CA for CA check cashing. They say I can make arrangements with them,but I'm worried they will only accept large amounts or full payment. I'm really worried about Check into CASH collection. I' ve dealt with CASH 1 and they were horrible. threats, calling relatives, etc. Does anyone have information of the best way to deal with them?

ok all the 3 major credit bureaus say that accounts come back as verified how is this when we can't get in touch with the collection agency that they send are on the credit report?

Can someone please tell me what this means... Back in Sept I was served with a summons (by the Sheriffs Dept) from Chase for 3 credit cards I have not been able to pay on. There was a date listed on the summons and based on what I read here I responded that I disputed the charges. Period. In Fridays MAIL I received from Chase a copy of a Motion for Summary Judgement. The ghist of the motion says that my response 'is tantamount to a general denial and raises no Affirmative Defenses'.

Will check into cash call my employer immediately once it gets to collections? Does anyone know anything about how CA check cashing collections works? Could the pdl owner who was so helpful before give me some more info? Thanks

I'm back. Finally. I plan on staying and helping as much as possible. If someone would be so kind as to update me on anything I may have missed, I would appreciate it. Any new PDL Laws or situations I need to be aware of before I help someone? I'm up on the bankruptcy laws and such, but if there are any new situations in debt collection, etc, please feel free to share! I miss everyone here, and look forward to renewing old friendships!

If i email them this email you guys say to do do they really seize communication via telpehone? i dont want my references called. do they really only contact you via email or mail??
