I am in Va and had an old payday loan that we paid off in cash about 5 years ago with Ace Cash Express. I have no documentation to show for it now however the company no longer does payday loans. I have been getting calls from a Washington, DC phone number and now calls coming form Atlanta, Ga telling me that I have to try to negotiate a settlement amount or else I I will be taken to court and also face jail time if not paid. How do I handle this?

I followed the step by step process for dealing with illegal Payday lenders for a loan of $700 taken out in May of 2017, I stopped paying in July 2017 with a total paid of $765. I have received a collection letter for $1200 and after sending them the request for dispute they sent me a copy of the "installment loan agreement and promissory note". I don't know what to do now, am i obligated to pay this now?

I had about six checks written to the local casino totaling $3k. They were honored by a company called Global Payments. It’s a complicated story but in the short I was doing 30 day deferred checks, depositing to cover the previous months checks, and so on and so on. Then the casino flooded and closed for 20 days and my world crashed. Now I have $3150 worth of checks, the inability to initiate a 30 day deferred due to NSF, and they are calling to get payment.
