can a judgment that is filed agains you also put a lein on your house??

A couple years ago my dad moved, and cancelled his cable service with Comcast. They told him he needed to drop off his cable box at some return center, to which he told them "If you want it, you can come pick it up, but I won't go out of my way to drop it off..." When he moved, he took the box with him, and after two years he finally threw it away. Ironically, a week after he tossed it, he got a collection letter saying Comcast wanted $150 for non-returned equipment. There are already broad/generic validation letters on this board, but I like to make more specific letters.

So I have read a lot lately on debt settlement. I am so happy to see a lot of people have had success with it. I finally bit the bullet and emailed and pm'd someone on here who everyone seemed to have good results with. It has been a while and I haven't heard from him. I have decided since it is already starting out like this-I am choosing not to use his company. He does sound great but it appears he may be overloaded with people like me! :) So I have a few questions... This will be the 1st time I am ever late on a credit card. I have a few biggies and some small.

What's the best way to keep track of your credit scores, without having the wallet ripped offa your ass in the process? I'm getting reports from the big 3. I'm also getting the idea that it's not enough. I'd like a better idea of how I'm doing. But I'd rather not pay an arm and a leg for the info.

Can a collection agency mail a summons and have it considered "served" or must it be served by a process server? I recieved a summons (I'm guessing) in the mail, and with all the legal jargon I can't fcigure out what it means-I do know it came in the US mail, and not handed to myself or my husband by anyone. Is this a valid way of doing things? Can they summon me this way? What is a DV? How can I avoid actually appearing in court? So many questions, I'm so afraid of the answers!

I recieved what look like court papers in the mail today from asset acceptance llc for Home Depot. This is in my husbands name, and he is disabled and out of work. I have 4 children and cannot imagine what the heck this is about. I cannot remember having a bill from HD come to the house, and now this! We have no money, Christmas around the corner, and I cannot sleep from worrying. What can they do to us? HELP!!

omg :cry: im freaking out, almost about to cry these ppl called me a month ago Kirschenbum & phillips, p.c. asking me about my old ballys account. I thought it was some kind of scam or they are just bottom feeding, they keeped asking me to pay them over the phone (I would never give out my credit card over the phone) I get this court summons today, (sued for a sum of $1030) (now to the story) I tried to cancel ballys back in 2005 I was told that I can cancel within 45 days.

I got an on line payday loan for $300 and now the company is harassing me and trying to get me to pay $1025...what do I do. What are the laws for this in Tennessee?
