I'm over my head in debt and don't know what to do. I'm considering Chapter 13 but don't want my name in the paper nor do I want my credit to be affected for 10 years. What should I do?

I have been receiving harassing phone calls from National Credit Adjustors. A couple times, the person has been Mark Huston, but in general they do not leave a name. They say I owe $500 for a payday loan from either “Borrow Cash Now” or “Instant Loan Today”. I did recently default on some payday loans, which I'm trying to settle, but not from either of these companies. I informed them that I could not receive calls at work, but they laughed at me and said they would do whatever they wanted.

One week ago I sent my PDLs letters stating that I revoke their ACH withdrawals and explained how they were operating illegally in California. No one responded. However, Friday when they tried to withdraw money they found my bank had a hold on all ACHs. I am getting responses now. Mostly telling me I have one hour to call them. 500 Fastcash told me that they received my form letter...I believe they told someone else at this forum that also. It was in my own words, but I guess since it basically says "you're illegal" like all the other letters they get, they consider it a form letter.

I know this is such a minor thing but annoying as all get out. Is there a way to close the box that's located on the right of this forum (the one with the google search)? Some posts are difficult to read in their entirety since that box covers parts of the text. I have become addicted to reading this site and I would like to be completely sure I am reading the advice given correctly.

I recieved an automated call earlier from a law office asking to call back. I call them back and spoke to Anna Lomally who in turn tells me I have a bill from a Gulf South Medical Emergency room from 2004 in the amount of $241.00. I ask her if they will settle for a lower amount, she says yes, $175.00 but the offer is ONLY good for today and i MUST pay first then they will send me a letter stating Paid in Full. Of course, I'm weary and i tell her this. I also tell her i want to call an attorney to make sure this is legit collection. Suddenly the offer is good until tomorrow.
