I have a lot of credit card debt and my ex-husband's student loans. I can't afford to pay them. I'm a single mother with a minimum wage job, I can't afford any of these bills. I am getting calls everyday and I can't pay the bill collectors. I need major help.

Finally got a bill today in the amount of 876.55. I want to negotiate this as the original credit limit was 500. What should my next step be? Di I have to do the dv letter or can I start trying to negotiate now?

Ok don't hold your breath but I'm going to make this as short as possible. 2 1/2 yrs ago our credit was in the low 800's. My husband is a contractor we had several loans with a local bank that after many yrs of banking with we got a new loan officer who apprantly had no clue what he was doing.

Hi there, I hope to find some wisdom here. I declared bankruptcy 7 years ago this year and kept one credit card off the bankruptcy as I thought I could handle it (yeh right) so did not include it in the bankruptcy. Needless to say, I got into trouble with this credit card and was unable to pay it off and now it has gone to a collection agency. Actually, it just went to it's 3rd collection agency. I have been contacted by a debt recovery agency telling me they are in a position to offer me a settlement on this debt I have.

After I married my high school sweet heart in 2001 we started to have some money trouble. We both have student loans and credit cards and auto loans... Now we have twin 8 month old daughters. Money is tight to say the least. We are nearly caught up from my unpaid maternity leave, but it seems like there isno end to the late fees and bills and the companies don't want to hear my problems, they just want their money. Long story short. I was off of work for 9 months.

I am in extreme debt and have no idea of how to get out of it. My loans and other debts are far greater than my monthly pay. I am married and my husband seems to be the one always suffering for my downfalls. Is there any kind of way I can pay off my debts without involving my husband?

Just got served on a Saturday here at home from a company called Tri-Cap Investment Partners, LLC. It seems like they purchased all of our credit cards (Bank One, Chase, JC Penney, etc) and want us to pay. We filed for bankruptcy in 2005 and it was dismissed 6 months later because we made too much money at the time.

Brief as I can make it: portfolio recovery associates bought a debt from Providian and tried to collect. I sent them a DV, and they replied by asking me to fill out an "affidavit of identity theft". (Huh?) Thinking it was a mistake, I ignored it. A year passed. They then sent me a letter saying that since I hadn't sent in the form, they were going to resume collecting. I sent another DV. They then gave the file to their attorney, who contacted me in the usual manner.
