Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott last week sued Midland-based debt collection companies and their owners for engaging in widespread harassment of Texas consumers who were wrongly accused of owing debts. The harassment included threats to seize homes and possessions without court involvement.
"In Texas, we do not tolerate the harassment of innocent consumers who do not owe money on a debt," said Attorney General Abbott.
Any other board members military?19 years 9 months ago Just wondering if there are other military here, and how they have handled creditors contacting the command?
We are working with T&C, but some military-only lending companies have told us they will not work with a debt consolidation company. Even though it means they get all of their money, it just takes a little bit longer.
Companies that won't work with T&C?19 years 9 months ago So far we have two creditors that state they won't work with T&C, or any credit counseling company. At this point, we can't afford to catch up what has not been paid (utilities etc) and pay these creditors and T&C, something has to give.
If Congress can require that consumers participate in a credit counseling program for 6 months before declaring bankruptcy, then why didn't they require that LENDERS agree to participate and work with the consumers? No, we have not and will not seek bankruptcy relief, I'm just so mad that the law weighs so heavily against consumers now.
What to do about a charge-off?19 years 9 months ago Sorry, this is going to be kind of long.
Last fall we had made a payment arrangement with a creditor, that was for about $100 less than the scheduled loan payment. At not time did she mention, nor did we ask, about late fees being applied to the acct because of this arrangement (that was her suggestion anyways). The loan balance went from $5200 to $6100, all while we have paid about $900 to this company.
TWO judgements I never knew about...19 years 9 months ago So not only did I find over $900 in medical bill debt, I saw TWO judgements on my credit report. One from Citibank and another from Great Seneca Financial. I had absolutely NO clue that these were unpaid. When I went to college, my parents said they would take care of my credit cards. One is for $800, another for $1900. Which is crazy, because my credit limits were $300 and $600 (respectively).
I also went into the Missouri casenet site, which lists cases and I put in my name and saw both lawsuits. Since I was never served, I wanted to find out who was given the papers for the lawsuit.
