We are attempting to dispute a debt from 1997 that we have no infornmation about. A law firm received a judgement against my husband in January of 2000. And is trying to collect payment. We were never notified about the court date or given any opportunity to dispute. The law firm now claims the only validation they need to collect is said judgement. Is there any possibility of disputing this judgement?

hi... i've received a couple of msgs from a "law office", only that "i" should return the call. i did, then hung up when i heard it was about "an attempt to collect a debt", not sure how to respond, since i'd read a few posts on this site... so how do i respond when i call them back? do i offer my name up front? if the debt is legitimate, do i admit i owe it? or is this a case when you would ask for debt validation, by way of letter? advice would be helpful.

My wife was contacted by Asset Acceptance this morning (via a phonecall they placed to a long-outdated phone number at her parents' home) and told that she owed more than $600. from a credit card account that we're pretty sure she never had but that they say she closed in 1999. Received a call on our machine from 800-430-4740 x577 about a bad check she was nasty leaving a message that he would be arrested. The only thing I can figure is it is from a payday loan the only one my husband has out there is 1 click cash I closed the account and opened a new one after he got terminally ill and I have already paid them over what I owe and they added more charges does anybody recognize this number I may have wrote the last 4 digits wrong.

I have so many outstanding payday loans that I do not know what to do. I have been going through this for over a year. I am at a point where I may not be able to pay my rent this month. Can any one help me get rid of these?

I am another victim of the payday loan trap. I currently have 9 outstanding local store loans. I keep rolling them over, I keep getting more on the local loans to pay the rollover fees on my other loans. My fiance thinks that I only have one and no one knows the trouble I've gotten myself into. It keeps me up at night and makes me sick to my stomach all the time. I consider myself a very honest person and that is why I have kept paying these stupid loans over and over again faithfully. But now I've had enough! I'm sick of all my hard earned money going towards these fees.
