When you dispute a debt that is on your credit report, and the debt is never validated in anyway...what does the collection agency do with the debt...do they sell it to another debt collector?

When will our government put some teeth into the laws to protect consumers? I am still reading horror stories of people being called and threatened with jail etc...., for not paying their debts. Does anyone know of any type of effort on the part of politicians to become more proactive in this venture?

I had a loan with American Web Loan which I waaaay overpaid on this, paying $1,433 on a $600 loan before closing my account. Despite the fact that I sent the illegal lender letter to AWL and stopped my direct deposits to the account that they had on file, they of course continued to try to withdraw funds from my account completely ignoring me until the account was closed, at which time they called me, maybe a month or so ago. That call ended with the woman I spoke with telling me that they would have to send my file to the Farrel Law Group.

I have been contacted by Jaffe & Asher re my late Amex payments. I have 2 accts-Optimum where I pay a min monthy payment and aTraditional Green Card where i pay full bal. I have been reading all the post about payday loans but am confused as to how to handle my own situation. Apparently RI law states that payday loans taken over the internet follow the laws of the state where the business is located. I am aware that some of the loans I have are not legal anywhere in the US. I have looked at the sample letters, but am not sure how to write mine, as I can not say that payday loans are illegal in my state.

I live in Texas and took out an online loan with SpeedCash in January. I've renewed the loan 6 time at $127 and change which was interest only. The original loan amount was $500 so I've already paid them $750 or so.* Am I off the hook and should I be entitled to a refund of my over payment? Thanks.
