I just got a letter from Mitchell N. Kay offering a settlement for an account I have never had. Anyone have advice for how I can nip this in the bud before they hit my credit rating?

I rewcieved 2 letters from Kay offices. One yesterday for $400.00. and another at my childhood home across town, for 9 thousand $. It involves some CAPITAL ASSET HOLDING CORP. FIRST INVESTORS FINANCIAL SERVICE. I think I recieved another letter a couple months ago and just threw it away. I think this is a con and if I make myself know to them, I may get defrauded. I don't know anything about these claims. Al least for the last 7+ years. I don't trust them.

i just received a letter from Mitchell Kay's office offering to settle a debt for a third of the actual balance. i know i owe it and it sounds like a good offer and i am inclined to just accept and pay it off but now i am not sure what to do after reading more about them.
if i know i owe this, should i just pay it or is this a scam?

Like all the others, my wife received a letter from MNK yesterday for a debt on a account that she never had. She called them and besides being out-sourced and rude, really didn't completely verify who she was and told her her entire SS#. It is upsetting her badly. They kept saying that it was a small amount and it would be easy for her to just pay it off. Anyways, to the point, has anyone had any results ??? Everyone has discussed what has happened but I'm not reading any final results. A little insight would help. Should we waste our time and money with a cerified letter ?? I know we are going to contact the business that supposedly filed against her for the debt (T-Mobile, aka VoiceStream). Any help would be appreciated. I too have recieved a very similar letter to many others in this thread, and would very much like to know what action to take to prevent this from becoming a real issue, IE the falsely report to a/the credit bureau(s).

While the ammount they wish me to pay is small I don't want to shell out free money if it they will just send another letter of collections.

My DD got a letter from their offices for $2,740.66 that they say she owes T-Mobil. She's never received a bill from T-Mobil. She had a trial service with them for 12 days last year, but she canceled it. This reads very much like a scam to me.
