I just talked to UCB about a charge from 2006 for $220. I asked if they could send me something to verify that these charges are mine since I don't know what they are. They said no. They would not send anything to me and I would have to pay by credit card or check over the phone immediately or they would start to garnish my wages from work. I asked if I could start making payments and they said no. They wanted it in full. I am a single mother and I can't afford to make one single payment. They said fine. We will start the garnishment and they hung up. Can they do that legally?

Hello everyone, love the forum. I have a question that doesn't seem to have been addressed. I did somewhere around 10 settlements on different CC accounts in 2009 with 5 different companies. So far, Feb. 1, I have not received any 1099-C's on these accounts. My understanding is that the company must send you a copy when they send it to the IRS. So this leads me to assume that these companies have not notified the IRS of these settlements. I have the approximate amounts that were discharged, but not exact figures. Should I report these to the IRS anyways even without a 1099 or just let it go.

Hi, I live in Minnesota. I took out these 2 loans last February; they were both re-loans. Anyways, I defaulted, lost my job and didn't make any payments and just ignored their calls. Well, I got an email from both of them saying they would settle my accounts for 60% of balance and to call them and they would work with me. Both EXTREMELY friendly ladies I talked to and paid the settlement on Payday 1 on Friday (which has already be debited from my check card) then today I arranged 2 payments to pay off First Bank of Deleware.

I sent out a debt validation letter to a collection agency...waited then sent a debt validation follow up letter...they still cannot validate the debt, question is? 1. Do I need to send copies of these letters to the credit bureaus? 2. Is there a letter I need to send with them? 3. Help....:)

Northways Financial, paychecktoday.com and National Group - Help!! Looking for advice on dealing with 3 companies and for their contact information. I have some but cannot sort out who is who since they seem to use different names. I have no address info whatsoever and am receiving phone calls which I do not answer. I need to stop the fees I am being charged due to the ACH that they keep putting through my account. I am on medical leave and also do not want them to harrass my employer or send this to a collection agency.

Looking for contact information and advice on how to handle these 3 companies. I have a variety of emails and info but not sure what is real and trying to sort out the different names they seem to operate under. 1st Loan Northways Financial which I believe came off of zip19.com I took out 300 then 600 then 800 which I paid off, (huge interest). Then they gave me a loan for 1100 and 1250 which when they tried to ACH my account did not go through due to financial and medical bills I incurred.

State: CA $60k on amex & couldn't make the payments as of 2007 (long story - personal card used for business. business went under after taking on bad "investors" & basically dismantled).. Zwicker sued me recently. They didn't serve me at all. Zwicker didn't show up to a conference set up by the judge & the case was immediately dismissed. I'd like to settle and get this over with. Tried to call AMEX - they said they "no longer have the account". Tried to call a number at Zwicker which is just a voicemail that asks for all sorts of account info and they will call back.

Zwicker and associates sent me a letter for a judgement in court for money i owe to discover card plus court fees. What can i do?
