We keep getting automated calls from Palisade Collections, LLC. The automated call says it's them, leaves a call back number and a reference number to use when calling back. However, when you call back their number, they require you input your social security number to go any further - they don't require you to put in the reference number they gave you. Is this legal? I have attempted to contact them via certified mail, return receipt, for a DV and to inform them to cease calls as the debt is being disputed (they have attempted to collect a debt from my husband before that was not his).

Again, a big thanks for all the advice you have given me over the past few weeks. Today I went into my bank and went straight to the office manager (the branch manager was out). I explained the situation without a lot of detail and she opened me up a new account and put my old account on "credit only". I confirmed at least 5 times that no debits will be honored from my old account and that nobody can link to my new. She confirmed so it looks like I am headed in the right direction. Part of me is nervous because it was so simple...

Need some advice. In 2007, my debit card was stolen and my bank account was emptied. I had overdraft...so when I closed my account, it was negative $800. I got together with the bank and the police and everything was dealt with. I looked on my credit report this year...and there is a negative hit on my account for the supposed $800 that was owed to that account. It wasn't directly from the bank, but a debt recovery service the bank probably uses. I don't have a bank account with them since then and don't have any paper work from the event.

Newport news closed my acct. and they show up on my credit report. I owe $23.00 and want to pay this since it reflects badly on my credit. Where can I send this payment to? thanks

I recently received judgement papers from a law firm/collection agency in new york representing sears. I live in florida and the account was also opened in florida. They are threating to garnish my wages. The credit card was opened in 2000 and the last payment made was july 2004. Should i respond to them or ignore them since the statue of limitations is expired on the debt?

Also I had an account with Rewardzone Mastercard (HSBC) that had a balance of $812.46.

I owe a debt to a bank, the collection agency that claims that they now owen it does not have the same account number that the original account had. I have paperwork, statements and a letter from the bank when the were sending it to the collection agency my account number doesn't correspond with what the collection agency has. I have told them that this is not my account, however the still claim that they will take legal action

Started receiving calls from this company yesterday. This is the first time this company has contacted me. First it was calling my cell phone then my work phone and leaving me a message on my work voice mail. A total of 5 calls were made to me from this company. When I called them back, thinking it was something rather urgent according to them since they left a case #, I called back requesting to speak to Sarah Stone, the one that called me and left a message. Apparently someone by the name of Jim in the investigations dept. got my call and proceeded to help me.
