My mom lost her job, and I had to start paying for myself. I opened four credit cards, and now I can seem to move my balance. I continue to pay over the minimum payment, but nothing seems to help. I am a server, adn it has been slow latly, and I can't get a second job because I have to go to school.

Hi, I received a summons about 2-3 weeks ago. I had an account with discover card. I lost my job 3 yrs ago because of union activity. On the summoms I owe $6'677.07. I didn't know what to do so I responsed to the summoms today at court, I don't won't my check to be garnished. I can't afford to pay that. What can I do? The attorney is Buckles & Buckles PLC. I called them to try and make a settlement from $2000-$4000. The lowest they would go is $6200. I told them that was to high.(My grievance is still active.

I sent a certified letter to the collection agency for debt validation and request all communication take place in writing. I haven't yet received anything from them. They did make a few phone calls the first two weeks following their signing for the letter, but I haven't heard anything from them since. What should I do? A friend recommended I send a second copy of the letter stating it is a second notice.

I have another question dealing with all this...as I try to arm myself with all the information I can. I am trying to contact T&C and also the agency that was referred to me originally...Superior Debt, to see about consolidation. My question is this...it says on the "debt consolidation" page here that one of the advantages to this procedure is that it can lower interest rates and eliminate finance charges. Is this really true...I mean that would be great, since almost 3/4 of the total amount I have been paying on our cc debt goes to finance charges...literally eating us up alive!

Hi there, nice site! My wife Lived in CA back in 98-99 and moved back tot he midwest in Jan of 00. Today out of the blue she got a collection letter for $400 for a phone account that was not shut off by her ex in CA untill March of 00. Does the 4 year SOL apply to this debt? What rights does she have? she has never been contacted about this untill now, and we just had an offer accepted on a house.

I was under the impression that in the state of AR that you could not be sued after two years fro a bad debt am i wrong

Has anyone heard of a collection agency called A.S. & Associates? I had a bad experience with one of their aollectors this morning. Basically, they called me at work and told me I might go to jail because of an NSF that was used to try and pay off a payday loan.
