i received a letter from a law firm in ga. (legitimate (oxymoron) law firm) claiming a debt of around 2000 usd. i sent email denying debt and they responded with a default judgement in ny from 2007. the default was in favor of midland.... but no details. i have not lived or worked in the usa since 1999 and have no open debts. i am responding to the lawyer letter denying debt but what do i do about the default.... are there any punitive actions i can take as whatever midland represented to the ny courts must be forged as there has been no communication with me about a court appearance.

What does a "valid" validation contain. I had a collection agency call me and the payday loan they are collecting on was paid a couple of years ago.

BDPDL electronic check

BDPDL has sent an electronic check to my account for $575. My Credit Union paid it and since it dropped my accoung neg. (after I finally got it positive at 4 pm the same day) they charged me $30. Now my account is negative again preventing me from closing it (as I couldn't earlier since it was negative). I put a stop ACH withdraw from this company on it a few weeks ago and was waiting for my account to go positive so I could close it. Is there anything I can do to get this money back? I have to pay my mortgage, etc. If not what do I do next?

getting threating calls from a new york number

Hi Soap Lady, I noticed that you seem to have some really good answers for people. I am a little bit frightened by what happened to me today. I recieved a call from a man who claimed to be with a law firm in New York and that he was walking across the street to file felony fraud charges on me, for writing a check to a payday advance place in 2009.

Well, now what?

So in the mail today I received a letter from the Law Offices of Presley Smith, stating that he is representing Online Advance, and that I owe then $355.00 from a loan I obtained from them. I paid the principle only on this loan because Online Advance is not legal in the state of Nevada. Has anyone heard anything about the Law Offices of Presley Smith in Savannah GA?

collection letter from Palisades

I was highly surprised to get a collection letter and think that I may be a vicitm of identity theft. I called AT & T wireless as it shows the creditor and I am the debtor. I am using a different wireless company for 6 consecutive years and another co. for 8 consecutive years but not AT & T wireless. Where is this collection agency getting this stuff from? Could they be making fraudulent collections?

Debt call?

I received a very disturbing call today from 716-244-6554. The man stated that I had written a bad check to a cash advance company that I have never heard of on an account that I never had checks for. He also used my previous name and an adress that I have not lived at in around five or six years, in fact I do not even live in the same state. He then told me my social security number my p o box and my physical address, claiming I was going to be arrested by the end of the business day if I did not pay him $850 in half an hour.

I cant even afford that! I cant even make a partial pymt online i have to call it in. I just couldnt afford $170.00 at a 28.99% rate. Ive called them several times and they dont want to help me. Ive keep in touch every mth like they tell me but they wont help. I told them we are having some financial difficulties and that this card is the one that has the highest balance and interest rate.

Return of Title IV Funds

I withdrew from classes after receiving financial aid; because of the timing of when i dropped my classes, I was subject to the return of title iv funds policy. The school returned part of my financial aid that was unearned due to dropping glasses to the dept of ed. this left me with a balance owed to the school. my question is... do i owe the school? or the dept of education? because it was repaid by the school, as outlined specifically in their policy, to the dept of ed, it now appears that i owe the school, not the dept of ed.
