When does a company like Beneficial Finance generally turn over debt to a collection agency?

My wife was contacted by Smith Debnam attorneys at lawin N.C.(we also live in N C) about her discover card debt.We contacted them to try and make a settlement but the only way they will settle is with a $1000.00 down that we dont have.When my wife told them what we can afford the tell us they cant work with that.Now the lady she talk to tells my wife she has till the end of the month. In the letter they said they will be proceed to lawsuit.We are are trying to avoid that but we dont have what the are asking for.Need help the end of the month is not far.

My bankruptcy discharge will be 2 years in March 2011. Can I qualify for refinancing? I had not reaffirmed my home in bankruptcy. So, will that affect refinancing in any way? Currently, I have a FHA mortgage. Is it necessary to change the mortgage type?

I received a collection notice from RJM Acquisitions LLC and filled out the option to make $10 payments monthly on debt, filled out my credit card info and mailed it in. Now to find out the account they are collecting Debt on is Past the SOL. What do I do? They have my info and credit card.
