I guess Im happy about that. LOL My issue is that, I went to school for one semester in 1996, and got a student loan for it, around 2100 I think. Fast Forward to 2010 .. Some company called CBE Group, starts calling my job asking for me by my maiden name, all my CR's show my married name, thought this was weird, none the less, told them that I didnt work here anymore, lol. Now, I am the Admin and Accounting person here in my company so I get all the mail, do all of the payroll etc. A letter comes from DoE wanting to verify if I work here, how long ive worked here etc.

I've been offered a settlement of 30% from Chase. They say the cards go to charge-off next week. I have reason to believe that I can get 20% if I let them charge off. How much worse is the damage to my credit report if I make an agreement after vs. before the charge-off? Chase claims that once it charges off, the bad info will be on my report for 7 years, but if I pay before the charge-off, it will almost immediately show as "paid as agreed" Thanks for any help you guys can give. Its been a tough ride the past couple of years. I just found this board and its been a big help.

has anyone heard of federal credit law firm ? i received a call from them stating there were a rep. for us fast cash. we took out a payday loan , wich i do not dispute but, these people are threatening a civil lawsuit if i do not pay the remaining $746.56 on the account. the person who contacted me was named lance martin and i received phone calls from two seperate numbers, the first being 408-689-0449 and the other being 415-727-2513. does anyone have any info on this company or this person. i am willing to repay the loan bt, they seem to be unwilling to work with me.

I have been a member of this site for a little under a year now and I can only say thanks for all of the terrific advice that I have received over the past year. With that being said I would like to call upon the NY members of this site to take a collective action against the parent corporation of the above mentioned firms; Miami Nation Enterprises of Oklahoma. I took the advice of this forum and filed complaints with the NY Attorney General's Office of Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau.

First I wanted to say thank you to all the people on this forum. I just settled with Chase on Saturday (124 days). I owed 33k and I settled for 10K (around 30%). I have never been late on a credit card in my life and I lost my job and have no income. I plan on staying away from credit cards in the future. I read this board everyday when the phone was ringing and it was this board that got me through. I still have one card to settle with HSBC 11K and they won't budge. They want 50% ($5,500).

Been reading posts up here, have learned a lot. My own situation is similar, yet different, to many up here, think I will try to explain & ask some questions. I lost my "real" job a couple years ago. Racked up huge CC and loan debt as I struggled to keep going and find work. Found work last year through startup company via a friend and was making only enough to keep head above water with minimum payments on all the CCs. Had promise of big payday when things took off.

I received a phone call from a man who said we defaulted on a pay day loan. We did, I admit that but when I triedto make payment arrangements, due to my new job and my pay schedule, they said I wasn't acting in good faith and to have my attorney call them so they coul serve us witha suppena to appear in federal court in Los Angeles County- we live in Pennsylvania. I called the F.T.C., the BBB in California and the Attorney General's Office in California and I don't know what to do next.

Just settled with AmEx this past week for 35%. When visiting with Chase today advising them of our settlement with the company mentioned above, Chase is now asking to see a current statement from Am-ex and a copy of the original settlement letter. Have you been asked for one or the other or both? Will this help or hurt my settlement process with the other 4 major credit card companies? Chase, Citi, B of A and Advanta.

Great site. I have some PDL's that are strangeling me, are they legal in PA? Can i close my bank account and work out any repayment (although I have probably paid more that enough out to these companies by now)? thanks
