I have posted recently about my ordeal with HSBC and Finklestein, Kern, Steinberg and Cunningham and I am taking a big chance here, but tomorrow I am going to speak to an attorney in Memphis that deals with fdcpa law violations. I am going to pursue the attorney that handled the case for HSBC for violating the law by threatening lien on our home and garnishment of hubby paycheck where is isn't even on the account. I have come to learn that they can't put a lein on the property for unsecured debt from people on this site. I need your opinions on this matter.

I hope I'm not posting in the wrong area, if I am, I apologize. How do collection agency's find out where you are working if you don't apply for credit? Also, when my vehicle was put in my name, sos, told me they give this info to no one, yet, when I sought a credit report, for proof of my idenity they asked what my most recent car was, they gave me a list to chose from, low and behold, mine was on the list.

Ideally, I would like to accept a CA settlement, but I cannot afford the 3x of $700 (original debt is $3200). The original account was charged off in 2003, I have been making $70 payments for at least two years. The original creditor (Providian now Washington Mutual) turned the account over to a third party collector.

i have recently received a summons (taped to my door) from a lawfirm representing a collection agency. for the past couple of months, this collection agency has been sending me letters and calling me for a $1600 credit card debt that i do not owe. I have ignored their letters and calls since i do not owe any money and i have had no dealings with the lender - i have also reviewed my credit reports and it is perfect. thing is that the name on the letters is similar to mine (for example, if my name was Don T Smith and the letter was for a Dom P. Smith..).

So, this 800 # has been calling me and instead of a person, its a damned machine. Frankly I'm not going to waste my minutes on a machine that I have no idea why its calling me, my communication with them must not be that important. Therefore I hang up or let it go to voicemail (usually I hang up so I don't have to call my voicemail back to delete the message). Now its gone to buggin my parents who are 2 1/2 hours away.

Hello all. As you know, Oxford has our dell financial accounts. I recently joined a debt consolidation group--freedom point--and included all of the dell account to oxford on the program. I have heard nothing back on whether they are accepting me on the program or not. I did however receive two letters today---both the same but different account numbers...offering me a half off settlement. Impossible for me at this point right now.

Hi, you all. I want to say first of all that I joined this group to hopefully find someone else I can talk to that is in a debt settlement program. So far I have found lots of great information as well as conflicting statements. Yes, it is depressing and Yes it is scary for me to think about. For those whom don't know, I am enrolled in a debt settlement program. You stop paying the creditors because it makes no sense to settle with them if your currently paying them right?

and told the lady who covers for me that. I needed to call him back ASAP. It was a serious legal issue. Can he tell people things like that. I know he can't release any info about my debt, but can he tell someone it is a legal issue???

I just had to share that back on May 5th I filed a complaint to the FTC and to the BBB of Mountain States against a phone number 1-866-201-4603 who harrassed me as well as you all and when I did that they had 16 complaints then! Today I checked the site for another company and now Jacobi and Mayors has 20 complaints as of todays date! I do have to say it was a good feeling that so many people are fighting back and not taking CA's crap!

Hello, I recently received a call everyday from a company called RAB (aka Regional Adjustment Bureau) and I get this automated message stating that it's a very important call. Has anyone heard of this? or recognize the phone number (800 829 7750) or anything? I'm really confused what they want from me because I have no idea what kind of debt they are talking about. They don't mention anything in the message except for the phone # and that it's a very important matter.
