I am a freelance writer in Louisiana. I received a $400.00 payday loan, in which a $120.00 fee is charged every 2 weeks that it is not paid back in full. I was only aware of a $30.00 fee per $100.00 borrowed. I had no idea it would be reoccurring! American Web Loan is an internet lender who never ask me for ID or called to verify anything either. I would have ask more questions if they had, and I would have most definitely passed the offer with such ludicrous fees attached. I am a single Mother picking up work online when I can.

About 3 years ago Northstar collection said they would accept 1500 for the 5000 debt I owe. I did not have the 1500 then. I am in college now and receive a pell grant refund each quarter. I contacted Northstar. They say they will only accept the 1500 in one lump sum, not partial payments. What am I to do? shoud I contact a lawyer?

I got denied a credit card and one on the reasons is be ausencia of " derogatory status on open accounts in credit file". What does this mean and what can i do to fix it? :confused:

I recently have had an experience like the others are listing here. The man was rude, threatening and demeaning. Comments like others listed here, will have me arrested, come to my work, call my boss,etc. Was told he will turn my life upside down. I have it all documented via text messages. In doing research they clearly violate the Fair Collections Protection Act. How do we report them and be it enforced,? What would be a next step to make them stop! Not only for me but for all the others they are harassing and in volatiom of what the act clearly states?

I received a voicemail today on my work cell from someone claiming I needed to call them to complete something. I called this number and this person stated that they were with X and X associates and they had purchased an old debt of mine. Let me explain I havent had an unpaid or late paid bill since Jan 2003. I maintain a credit score of 795. This person claimed I had a card opened in the late 90s and claims on May 2003 I made a payment of X.XX amount and nothing since. I did NOT recognize the card holder and he stated the account had been sold multiple times.

I am somewhat versed in my rights but there are some grey areas that I may not understand. MCM has been calling me since last year (December 2011) for a cell phone bill from 2005. I've read that the SOL begins on the date of first delinquency - is that correct? In this case the cell phone was shut off in December 2005 and the first delinquency was in Oct/Nov 2005.

I got a call this afternoon from a Kelly LaRoca stating that she was to serve me papers for a court date If she does not hear from me she has no choice but to serve me Monday at my place of work. The number to call she says is the claiments. 855-505-5187 I am terrified and I work at a school so this is not good. Should I call them? there are several posts on the internet regarding this phone number. They do serve papers but everyone is pystified. Who are they? What is the next step? Thanks, DHL:confused:

After bouncing from CA to CA, my account (formaly of BofA) is now in the hands of Forster and Garber which I understand are collection attorneys. I have sent them a DV letter, however, they have not responded. Is this the proper protocol being that they're collection attorneys and not a CA? If I don't here from them by mail, should I call them? Am I doing the wrong thing by asking them to validate a debt? I want to get the ball rolling but they don't seem to.

I have sent out C&D letters last week only had two responses so far still waiting on 2 more. My question is how long should I wait to hear from them and send another request for PIF and refund or am I better to just let laying dogs lay?
